Praying Taraweeh in Congregation Remotely during the Lockdown: OK?

Praying Taraweeh in Congregation Remotely during the Lockdown

Question:

Is it permissible to pray Taraweeh or any other obligatory prayer in congregation (Jamaah) remotely (following the TV, mobile or Radio) during the lockdown?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

It is not permissible to follow the imam on TV, mobile, radio or any other set when performing the prayer, whether Taraweeh prayer or other prayers. Instead, one can perform Taraweeh prayer at home by what he/she memorizes of short or long Surah (chapters) from the Qur’an.

It is better for optional prayers to be performed at home, and among these optional prayers is Taraweeh. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Perform some of your prayers at home and do not make your homes graves.” (Agreed Upon)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) further said: “The best of your prayers is the one performed at home except the obligatory one.”
