What Is the Ruling of Not Reciting Al-Fatihah in the Last Two Rakahs?

Reciting Al-Fatihah in the Last Two Rakahs

Question:

What is the ruling of offering prayer (making Salah) without reciting Surat Al-Fatihah (the Opening Surah) in the third and fourth rak`ahs

Answer:

In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

According to the Hanafi School of Fiqh, it is better to recite Surat Al-Fatihah in the last two rak`ahs of the obligatory prayer (the five prescribed prayers). However, if the worshiper remains silent and does not recite it, then he committed a mistake but his prayer is valid. Another view holds that he has not committed a mistake because it is authentically established, according to Hanafis, that the Muslim is given the choice to recite the Al-Fatihah or remain silent in the last two rak`ahs of the obligatory prayer.

However, there is a clear and authentic hadith in the Sunnah in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “He who does not recite Fatihat al-Kitab is not credited with having observed prayer.” (Agreed Upon)

In this short video, Dr. Muhammad Salah explains the answer of that question.
